Alejandra Jimenez tests positive for banned substance. Surprise? Not!

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman reported a banned substance was detected during the drug testing of Alejandra Jimenez either the week before or just after she won the WBC and WBO super middleweight titles against Francon Crews Dezurn last week. It appears that so far, only the A-sample has been tested. Jimenez, who fought as a heavyweight as recently as 2017, fought in 2020 with a dramatically altered physical appearance. Formerly chubby, she now has bulging, lean and ripped muscles almost never seen on a woman. Her facial structure and deep voice also seemed very different from her heavyweight reign. Sulaiman stated, "VADA [the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association] has notified the WBC of an adverse finding from a test conducted on January 11 on Alejandra Jimenez as part of the testing protocol for her fight vs Franchon Crews-Dezurn. The WBC has initiated the corresponding process under [its] Clean Boxing Program. Jimenez responded by proclaiming her innocence and stating she will have her B-sample tested.

Jimenez's Twitter account posted two VADA letters, both dated January 24th: one letter stated that Jimenez tested positive for stanozolol on a January 10th test [stanozolol is a synthetic steroid that is derived from testosterone]. The other letter indicated a clean January 11th test. The fight took place on January 11th, with Jimenez winning by decision, and Crews Dezurn taking a  lot of punishment.

Jimenez tweeted in Spanish, "I trust the due process of investigation carried out by the World Boxing Council in which I am sure it will be resolved in my favor."
