Carlos Takam is likely to be Oleksandr Usyk's first heavyweight foe

The WBC reports that British promoter Eddie Hearn is working to find  a date for the heavyweight debut of world cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, and Usyk's first opponent in the new weight class will be France-based Carlos Takam. Last year, Usyk (pictured) unified the cruiserweight division by capturing all world titles in the World Boxing Super Series. Takam fought well  against unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and against Joseph Parker (who would later become the WBO champion) but lost both fights. Takam also was stopped by Dereck Chisora but last December, Takam came back with a decent win over Senad Gashi. Takam would be a respectable opponent for Usyk's first dip into the heavyweght pool. The WBC reports that Usyk-Takam will likely take place May 17th or 25th. The WBC quoted Hearn as follows: “Usyk will make his fight in the heavyweight division next, and we almost have Carlos Takam finalized as his rival. We were going for May 18, but now Wilder will fight  on that date, and we do not want to run into that show. So we are analyzing if it would be a better option on May 17th or 25th.”
