Coronavirus KOs Kazakhstan card

The upcoming MTK Fight Night event in Kazakhstan has been postponed due to Kazakhstan going back into a country-wide lockdown. The show was set to take place behind closed doors in Almaty on July 18th, and feature the professional debuts for amateur stars Tursynbay Kulakhmet and Talgat Shaiken, plus the likes of Abay Tolesh, Berikbay Nurymbetov, Arman Rysbek and more. Due to rising COVID-19 cases, Kazakhstan has been placed on a lockdown that is set to last at least two weeks, meaning the event will take place at a later date.

Head of MTK Kazakhstan Askar Salikbayev said: “In this situation, it is a big pity for the athletes who were preparing for this event. We had matched the fighters well, and each bout attracted a lot of interest among the fans. There was an unprecedented buzz around the event. Boxers, in addition to exhausting training, were also cutting weight for the 18th, so it is a massive shame. As for the new date of the event, we will proceed with the decision of the interagency commission after two weeks of quarantine, and then we will make a decision. We’re thinking of all citizens of our country and the entire planet, and we really hope everyone stays safe.”
