Dillian Whyte gains WBC interim recognition

Dillian Whyte W12 Oscar Rivas... British heavyweight Dillian Whyte conquered the WBC interim heavyweight belt by defeating Colombia's Oscar Rivas, at the main event in  the O2 Arena in London, England over the weekend. Whyte was leading on the cards when he got a real scare. Rivas surprised everyone by sending Whyte to the canvas in the ninth round with a crisp right uppercut. Whyte managed to survive the storm, end the round and finish stronger in the concluding rounds. The judges scored 115-112, 115-112 and 116-111, all in favor of the British fighter. Whyte is now 26-1, with his only loss to former champion Anthony Joshua. He has longbeen trying to get a fight vs. WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, but the WBC has not enforced its mandatory rules properly. The interim title should eventually get Whyte a shot, but look for the WBC to allow Wilder two more fights before demanding Wilder-Whyte. Rivas, who is now based in Canada,, heads back to the western hemisphere with a record of 26-1. source: wbc
