Jojo Diaz dominates Charles Huerta in distance win

Joseph Diaz W10 Charles Huerta:  Joseph “Jo Jo” Joseph Diaz (27-1, 14 KOs) faced Charles Huerta (20-5, 12 KOs) in a ten-round junior lightweoght contest in Indio, CA.  The two were, and presumably still are, good friends who share a mutual respect.  As the fight progressed however, respect led to aggression with Diaz getting the better of nearly every exchange.  At the tail end of the fifth round, Diaz opened up and found his way fully around the high guard of Charles Huerta, landing seven unanswered power shots.  Diaz came out for the sixth at a measured pace, but still landing a high percentage of power shots.  And while Huerta survived the round, a stoppage win for Diaz seemed a realistic prediction heading into the final four rounds.  In the end though, Huerta survived to hear the final bell.  Diaz’s body shots, precision power punching, and ring savvy were the difference in this bout.  Official scores: 99-91 three times for Diaz, who looks like a more mature fighter after tasting defeat for the first time in his career last year against WBC FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION Gary Russell Jr.  Diaz improves to 28-1 with 14 KOs) while the tough Huerta drops to 20-6 with 12 KOs. source: DAZN
