Barrios stops Zamora in fourth round of war!

By G. Leon

Mario Barrios TKO4 Richard Zamora: Thankfully for those in attendance in Carson, California and viewing on Showtime, this fight was the polar opposite of its predecessor. Mario Barrios (23-0 with 15 KOs) and Richard Zamora (19-3 with 12 KOs) gave boxing fans a barnburner of a junior welterweight fight with Barrios prevailing in four rounds. Zamora was as game as they come, but clearly outgunned. That didn't stop him from throwing and landing his fair share of heavy blows, but commentator Paul Maliganggi summarized it well by saying "Barrios is just too good for him." In round four, Barrios unleashed a barrage of power shots and too many of them were landing cleanly so the referee stopped the fight. Zamora was still in the fight and punching back at the time of the stoppage, but the referee made the right decision for his long term health. Official time of stoppage was 2:16. source: showtime
