Davis destroys Ruiz in opening round; breaks his nose and will to continue

By G. Leon

Gervonta Davis TKO1 Hugo Ruiz: WBA 130-pound super champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis made easy work of late substitute Hugo Ruiz. Davis (21-0 with 20 KOs) walked down his lighter foe from the opening bell. After landing a handful of solid body shots, Davis put Ruiz (39-4 with 33 KOs) into a corner where he unleashed ruthless combinations on the former junior featherweight title holder. Ruiz tried to fight his way out of the corner, but found himself on the ropes moments later whre Davis landed a crisp right hook.  Ruiz went down to the canvas on a delayed reaction, likely suffering a broken nose. He beat the count but the fight was stopped because he didn't reply when Jack Reis twice asked him if he wanted to continue. source: showtime
