On November 29, 2022, the IBF ordered its super flyweight champion Fernando Martinez and mandatory contender Jade Bornea to begin negotiations for a title fight. A purse bid was ordered for January 17th. A request for an extension to negotiate was requested and approved until January 24th. But on January 27th, Sean Gibbons, who represents Martinez, requested that a purse bid be rescheduled because an agreement could not be made between the camps. The IBF has therefore ordered a purse bid for Tuesday, February 14th at 12:00 PM EST.
PRIOR BOXINGTALK COVERAGE: On November 29, 2022, the IBF ordered its 115-pound champion, Fernando Martinez of Argentina and Jade Bornea to begin negotiations for a mandatory title fight against Jade Bornea of the Philippines. So far, no agreement has been reached, so the IBF has ordered a purse bid for Tuesday, January 17th at noon Eastern standard time. Martinez's record is listed as 15-0 but he was 9-6 in 15 additional pro bouts in the World Series of Boxing. His title reign consists of two wins over Jerwin Ancajas. Bornea is from the Philippines and boasts a pro record of 18-0.
