Serrano easily defeats Hardy

Amanda Serrano W10 Heather Hardy... At New York City's Madison Square Garden, Amanda Serrano (37-1-1) added yet another championship belt to her crowded trophy case, lifting the WBC featherweight title from fellow New Yorker Heather Hardy (22-1). Serrano battered Hardy in round one and the fight seemed like it was on the verge of being stopped. Serrano bloodied Hardy over the remaining ten rounds. Hardy seemed to work herself back into the fight, but didn't enough to win many rounds. Perhaps Serrano took her foot off the gas just a bit to save her good friend Hardy from getting knocked out. Official scores were 98-91 (twice) and 98-92. Punchstats had Serrano outlanding Hardy 222 punches to 131. Hopefully, Serrano can face one of the top lightweights next, either world champion Katie Taylor or Delfine Persoon, who arguably defeated Taylor in their last fight.

Hardy tweeted afterwards, "I wanna thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support... I’m OK. Amanda was better, and we knew that going in... but risk over regret. [I got] ten stitches, a split lip and a hella headache, but life goes on."

Serrano, already a seven-division champion, showed respect for the courage shown by Hardy. Serrano tweeted, "Like I told everyone, it was going to be a great fight. She proved my theory right... she was tough as hell... I love you Heather. Thank you for sharing the ring with me. No losers here."
