WBA delays minimumweight purse bid

The WBA purse bid for the fight between WBA 105-pound champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong a/k/a Knockout CP Freshmart and Jose Argumedo, initially scheduled for Monday, September 16th, was suspended because the parties requested an extension of the period for negotiations. The WBA called for the fight weeks ago for Thailand's Niyomtrong to make his mandatory defense against the Mexican challenger.  Both parties requested that the WBA allow a little more time to reach an agreement, and the request was approved by the WBA. Niyomtrong won the WBA interim belt in 2016 and became the WBA champion in 2016. Argumendo is a former IBF champion with a pro record of 23-4-1. He deafeated Venezuela's Alexis Diaz by knockout in his last fight in March to earn the right to face Niyomtrong. Both parties will continue to work on an agreement to carry out the fight under the terms of the WBA regulations.
