ANDRE BERTO ON SHANE MOSLEY: "HE DOESN'T WANT TO END HIS CAREER WHEN THERE'S BIGGER FIGHTS OUT THERE FOR HIM!"
By G. Leon
GL: I recently spoke to Shane Mosley and he informed me that your name has been coming up in discussions. He doesn't think it's a good fight for you, but you bring a championship to the table. How do you feel about fighting Mosley? "I would love the chance to fight Mosley. I'm out here in Los Angeles and I saw him on the red carpet at the ESPY's last night. I have a few options, so we're going to have to see what happens."
GL: Some people look at Mosley as too much too soon and too much of a step up, how do you feel about that?
Andre Berto: "A lot of people say a lot of different things. I believe a lot of people are still kind of disturbed by the Victor Ortiz fight, but I think I've proved myself that when the going gets tough I turn into a dog. It doesn't matter who I fight. I know what being a fighter is all about and you never know what's going to happen until you get in thar ring."
GL: How do you see a fight with you and Shane Mosley playing out?
AB: "Me and Shane have similar styles. He's got the edge on the experience, but I'm younger, faster with great power. I'm glad that a lot of people feel like they should be taking a fight with me becaue of my last two performances. I did what I wanted to do in those fights and I learned lessons. I stayed under control and I gained valuable experience. Now I guess I'm just going to have to fool a couple of people. When I fought Forbes they asked Shane if he wanted to fight me and he wasn't interested. I would love for him to fight me because he thinks I'm not a beast anymore."
GL: Does a fight with Mosley go the distance?
AB: "We won't know until it happens. I have a lot of respect for Shane. It's a fight the people want and it's a fight that HBO. At the end of the day, he's at a certain age and he needs to look out for big fights and he's not trying to end his career with bigger fights out there financially."
GL: Who would you rather fight Mosley or Collazo?
AB: "Economically, Mosley. To get the monkey off my back, Collazo."
GL: Do you have an exact date yet?
AB: "Not yet, but it's going to be in October or November some time."
GL: Closing thoughts?
AB: "I appreciate the interview as always. I had a good time at the ESPY's this week and I'm looking forward to getting back in the ring.
