CASIMERO LOOKING FORWARD TO PEACEFUL TITLE DEFENSE
Press Release: This Saturday night, Erik Morales’ Box Latino, Promociones del Pueblo and HG Boxing join forces to present an IBF junior flyweight championship fight between Johnriel Casimero of the Philippines and Pedro Guevara in Guevara's hometown, Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico. The bout will be televised live in Mexico on Televisa. Casimero (16-2 with 10 KOs) won his title last year by stopping Argentinean Luis Lazarte and then surviving a riot in Buenos Aires where Casimero had to escape under the ring to get out with his life. The 21 year-old Guevara is 18-0-1 with 13 KOs. Casimero landed in Mazatlan earlier this week and said, “my last fight was a nightmare other than winning the title. We were at the mercy of three hundred delinquents without any police help but I know that events will be different in Mazatlan.” Casimero mentioned to Filipino reporters before his departure from his native Cebu that he was glad to fight once again in Mexico. “Mexico is a country where they know boxing and applaud the winner even if he is not Mexican,” Casimero said. “They are experts and they cheer for the best fighter even if he is not Mexican. Also featured on the fight card will be female flyweight Irma “Guerita” Sanchez (23-5-1, 7 KOs) who defends her WBF title against Sharon Gaines (11-13-1, 3 KOs) over ten rounds, plus a super bantamweight bout matching ex-Mexican Olympian Arturo Santos (11-2, 4 KOs) and Khabir Suleymanov (13-2, 6 KOs).
