THE BOXINGTALK SCOREBOARD: ST. JOHN DEFEATS MARTIN; BOTH RETIRE
Compiled By Scott Shaffer

Mia St. John W10 Christy Martin... At California's Table Mountain Casino, 45 year-old Mia St. John outpointed Christy Martin, generally considered the the greatest female boxer of all time over ten rounds. The official scores were fairly close, 96-94 (twice) and 97-93 for St. John, but the 44 year-old Martin did not dispute the decision, saying Father Time had caught up with her. Both women announced their retirment in the ring afterwards. For Martin, just being able to compete was an inspiring triumph over adversity. Her ex-husband and former manager James Martin stabbed her twice and shot her in 2010, leaving her for dead. He got sentenced to 25 years in prison for the sickening attack. Martin and St. John fought in 2002, with Martin prevailing by unanimous decision. If their careers are truly over, St. John closes the books at 47-11-2 while Martin wraps up at 49-73 over a 23 year career. Martin will certainly be inducted into boxing's hall of fame in Canastota, New York. source: fresno bee
