CHAVEZ JR. MESSES UP... AGAIN
According to Sports Illustrated, the urine sample provided by Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. after Saturday's loss to Sergio Martinez showed the presence of marijuana (cannabis). Although he lost the fight, Chavez Jr. could still face a fine or suspension by the Nevada Athletic Commission, the regulatory body overseeing last weekend's world middleweight title fight. The WBC, who recognized Chavez Jr. as its champion until Saturday (even though Martinez clearly had the better claim to world supremacy), could also discipline Chavez, Jr. but that organization is known to go very soft on Chavez. This is the third brush with substance problems for the talented but undisciplined Chavez, Jr. Previously, published reports say he tested positive for a banned weight loss aid (a diuretic) and he was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol during a recent training camp. --Scott Shaffer
