TOKA KAHN RETURNS TONIGHT IN RHODE ISLAND
By Rob Soucy
Super featherweight Toka Kahn (2-0 with 2 KOs), continues his quest to become the next great fighter from the New England area tonight. A decorated amateur, Kahn (also known as Toka Kahn-Clary) signed with Top Rank and will compete on the undercard of Jimmy Burchfield's CES event at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Joseph "Chip" Perez (9-1 with 3 KOs) headlines against Chazz McDowell (6-2 with 1 KO). "I have been working on consistently using my jab to set up my power shots," said Kahn. "I wouldn't mind getting a few rounds in because each of my two fights ended early." Kahn, who weighed in at 131, thinks that he is ready for the next level. "I think I'm ready to step up my competition but I leave it up to my manager (Mike Criscio) and trainer (Peter Manfredo, Sr.) to make those decisions." Kahn faces journeyman Jamell Tyson (3-8-2 with 1 KO) in what should amount to a showcase for the Providence native. "Toka Kahn-Clary is the most talented fighter that I have ever had," said Manfredo, pretty high praise considering that he has trained world rated super middleweight Edwin Rodriguez.
