MALIGNAGGI WITHSTANDS LATE RALLY FROM BLOODY CANO
Paul Malignaggi W12 Pablo C. Cano... Brooklyn's Paulie Malignaggi’s WBA welterweight title was not on the line because Pablo Cesar Cano (26-2-1, 20 KOs) failed to make the 147-pound weight limit on Friday. Malignaggi, a Brooklyn native (32-4, 7 KOs), won a close split decision over Cano in a very bloody twelve-round bout. The final marks from the judges came in at 114-113 twice (Malignaggi) and a ridiculous 118-109 for Cano, a verdict which produced mixed reactions from the crowd. Malignaggi opened a very bad cut over Cano's left eye, which was so large it could have easily resulted in a stoppage win for Malignaggi. However, Cano kept pressing forward in typical Mexican style, and knocked Malignaggi down in the eleventh as part of a late rally. source: showtime
