LEWKOWICZ SIGNS COLOMBIAN OLYMPIAN
Press Release: Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz has announced the signing of Colombian super bantamweight Oscar Escandon (21-0, 14 KOs) to a promotional agreement. The 28-year-old Escandon began boxing at the age of 10 under the guidance of his father, Luis Alfonso Escandon. He had over 200 amateur bouts and represented his homeland in the 2004 Olympics. Escandon enjoys tremendous popularity in his hometown, the Department of Tolima's capital city of Ibague, in the central region of the Colombian Andes, about 130 miles from Bogota. He is the first athlete from Tolima to represent Colombia in an Olympiad. Expectations there are high that he will become the first world champion from the interior of Colombia, thus changing the cycle of Colombian boxing world champions who have exclusively came from the coastal region.
