BRADLEY: "PROVODNIKOV WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO WANTED TO FIGHT"
By Leon Cowan
Last week, undefeated WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley took questions from the media during his workout at Justin Fortune’s Gym in Hollywood, California. After a nearly nine-month layoff following his win over Manny Pacquiao, Bradley was asked why he chose Ruslan Provodnikov as his comeback opponent for his March 16th fight in the Los Angeles area. Bradley answered, “Provodnikov was the only one who wanted to fight. He was the last choice we had. No one else would take the fight.” Bradley also spoke about his intense sparring as preparation for the bout. “We sparred with Omar Figueroa. He puts an extreme amount of pressure on his opponents, he’s a hard puncher and fights every minute of every round. He was always throwing punches." Bradley did not shy away from questions regarding the controversial nature of win over Pacquiao [most felt Pacquiao deserved the decision] and the subsequent chatter from Pacquiao's trainer Freddy Roach, who said “as soon as Bradley feels Ruslan’s power he will run just like he did in the Pacquiao fight.” Bradley responded to Roach's criticism with this: “People can say what ever they want. I am still 29-0 and that’s what matters. Freddy Roach had his time; I don’t let this kind of stuff faze me. Freddy Roach can say whatever he wants. I’m still going to beat his fighter. I don’t run, I box. In the last few years I’ve been bashed so much in the media. Nothing can faze me.” Bradley has always been known for some unorthodox training methods and that has not changed. “I am still doing the vegan diet for training only, but after camp I’m eating meat and potatoes and anything I want. I like steak.”
