WBC TRYING TO FORCE ANOTHER BAD FIGHT: NAMES RUBIO AS MARTINEZ'S MANDATORY

Marco A. Rubio W12 Marcus Upshaw... Boxing fans, the WBC is going to try to shove another bad fight down the throats of television networks and boxing fans.  In Michoacan, Mexico, Marco Antonio Rubio, a decent contender, but far from the most deserving middleweight in the world, defeated Marcus Upshaw (15-9-2) by twelve-round unanimous and was promptly named the WBC mandatory contender to world middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. Rubio a Mexican who has already lost two WBC title bids (to Kelly Pavlik and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr.) won by scores of 120-107 and 117-110 (twice). Rubio's pro mark is now 57-6-1. Martinez has received shabby treatment from the WBC in the past (getting stripped so that Chavez could be given an easy path to the title). Hopefully, after fighting Martin Murray next month, Martinez will take a fight against a truly deserving contender even if it means getting stripped by the WBC. source: wbc
