FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS RESULTS
By G. Leon
Billy Dib W10 Mike Oliver: Former IBF featherweight champion Billy Dib outlasted Mike Oliver over ten competitive rounds on the main event of ESPN's Friday Night Fights which was held in Hartford, Connecticut. Few expected much from Oliver following such a long layoff because he hadn't fought since 2011 and was facing a fighters of Dib's caliber, but Oliver was able to jump out to what appeared to be at least a three point lead after three rounds due to two trigger happy point deductions from referee Roberto Ortega. Dib (36-2) constantly pressured Oliver (25-4) who spent much of the fight on the ropes looking for clean counter-punches that he was consistently able to land at a surprising rate. Boxingtalk scored the bout 94-94. Official scores were 94-94 and 96-92 (twice).
Mark Davis W8 Robert Osiobe: Mark Davis stepped into the ring for the first time in sixteen months and took care of a game foe in Robert Osiobe. Osiobe (14-6-4) was able to land his right hand cleanly throughout the action, however it was the speed and athleticism of Davis that were the difference. Now 17-0 as a pro, Davis spent much of the bout talking to Osiobe, but still was able to outwork his outgunned opponent and walk away with a hard fought victory. Boxingtalk scored the bout 77-75 for Davis. Official scores were 77-75 Davis and 78-74 (twice).
