TOMMY MORRISON DIES AT AGE 44

Tommy Morrison, a former WBO heavyweight titlist and co-star of Rocky V, passed away this weekend at the young age of 44, according to multiple sources. Morrison, who had tremendous punching power and all-American good looks, was one of the most popular boxers of his generation. He holds a win over George Foreman when the latter was in the later satges of his career. Morrison's own career was cut short when he tested positive for the HIV virus, and he later developed full-blown AIDS. Although the exact cause of his death was not disclosed, Morrison certainly did not help his situation when he claimed AIDS was a government conspiracy. Saying his own test was a false positive, Morrison apparently did not always follow the prescribed medical regimen for AIDS sufferers.  What is undeniable is that Morrison brought many, many thrills to boxing fans in victory and defeat. Boxingtalk sends its condolences to Morrison's widow, family and friends. May he rest in peace. --Scott Shaffer
