SITUATION DESPERATE FOR MOLINA-CHARLO
Golden Boy pulls plug but adds fourth fight to PPV
Press Release: As of Friday morning, Carlos Molina has officially become unavailable for his IBF junior middleweight title defense against Jermall Charlo. The fight was scheduled for tomorrow night [but Molina was arrested this week on charges that are several years old]. In light of these circumstances, the ten-round lightweight showdown between Ricardo “Dinamita” Alvarez and Sergio “Yeyo” Thompson has been elevated as the opening bout of the four-fight pay-per-view broadcasr at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The 32-year-old Alvarez (23-2-3, 13 KOs), the brother of Saul Alvarez, who fights in the main event, will face the power punching of the 30-year-old Thompson (28-3, 26 KOs).
In Saturday’s main event, Mexican boxing superstar and former 154-pound world champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will face hard-hitting countryman Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo in the first blockbuster boxing event of 2014. Saturday’s live pay-per-view telecast begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
