POST FIGHT INTERVIEW: ADAM KOWNACKI
By G. Leon

GL: Congrats on your win, can you give us some thoughts on your performance? It was good. My trainer gave me a 3.5 out of 5 so I've still got work to do, but I feel like I made a statement and I can't wait for better things to come. GL: What does it mean for you to get this kind of win with such a strong Polish contingency in the crowd on the first show at the newly renovated Nassau Coliseum? It was amazing. It was an amazing feeling to know that I had so many people behind me, it was just amazing, I don't really know how else to describe it. I can't find the words.

GL: Szpilka, before the fight almost seemed like he was overlooking you. He wasn't happy about fighting another Polish boxer and he acted like he was beyond your level. Did you get that vibe from him?

Adam Kownacki: "Yes I did. After the press conference on Wednesday he told Brad (from PBC) what's next after this? He was already too far ahead of himself."

GL: You did a great job of cutting off the ring and catching him with the right hand every time he stepped out. Was that something you expected to do?

AK: "Yes. It was the game plan we came up with and we executed it to get the W."

GL: You wanted to get rid of him faster than anyone else has, you succeeded in that goal, so what's next for you now?

AK: "My manager is Al Haymon and I trust him with my career and whatever he comes up with I'll be ready for."

GL: Any early indication as to when your next fight might take place?

AK: "Not yet, but I'm going to take a little time off and wait for the call before I get back to work."

GL: 3.5 out of 5 stars is what your coach gave you, so which part of what you were working on did you fail to execute?

AK: "He wanted me to double jab more and I think that if I would have done that before I stepped in, I would have taken him out even quicker."

GL: What statement do you think you made to the heavyweight division?

AK: "On boxrec I'm #11 in the world right now and that's an amazing feeling. I still got 10 boxers ahead of me so I've still got some work to do, but right now I'm going to enjoy it."

GL: Closing thoughts?

AK: "Thanks to everybody for your support, I hope you enjoyed the show. There's going to be plenty more to come."
