MEXICAN UPDATE: OLYMPIC MEDALIST WINS BIG
Misael Rodríguez TKO2 Gerónimo Barbadillo... In Chihuahua, Mexico, Olympic medalist Misael Rodríguez won a pointless second-round TKO over helpless Gerónimo Barbadillo. Rodriguez won bronze at the 2012 Olympics. He fought as a pro in the World Series of Boxing, losing 9 of 12, so although he is billed as 7-0, a more accurate pro record would be 10-9. Barbadillo (18-6-1) was comprehensively outclassed and totally overmatched. In the first, he was jolted with sharp left leads that Rodriguez followed up with long rights, backing the Argentinian against the ropes and punishing him. In the second round, the middleweight Rodriguez landed a huge right that dropped Barbadillo. He barely beat the count but referee Rocky Burke stopped the one-sided bout.
Saul Juarez TKO9 Gilberto Parra...Saul "Baby" Juarez stopped Gilberto "Yaqui" Parra in a light flyweight bout held in Mexico City. The stoppage came at 1:57 of the ninth round. Juarez accurately counter attacked and softened up Parra's body with some solid hooks. After eight rounds the open scoring showed Jaurez up marked 79-73 and 78-74 (twice) and Juarez was increasingly punishing the taller leaner Parra. In the ninth round, the referee stopped the fight because Parra could no longer respond to Juarez's attack. Prior to the start of the fight there an emotional and memorable tribute to recently deceased Mexican boxing manager Rafael "La Cobra" Mendoza. source for both results: wbc
