SHAWN PORTER EDGES DANNY GARCIA
By Scott Shaffer

Shawn Porter W12 Danny Garcia... In Brooklyn, New York, the vacant WBC welterweight title was claimed by Shawn Porter in a close, competitive bout against Danny Garcia. It was a unanimous decision for Porter but a very close fight. Porter won by scores of 116-112 and 115-113 (twice).  Showtime analyst Steve Farhood unofficially scored it a draw. Punchstats reflected just how close this fight was, as Porter held a slight 180-168 advantage in punches landed. Garcia was more accurate puncher, landing a higher percentage of his punches. As expected, Porter was the busier boxer, but Garcia was a little better technically. The tenth round was the best of the fight, with both men landing solid punches at a high work rate. When it was over, Garcia appeared to have a broken nose. After the fight, IBF champion Errol Spence entered the ring to call out his friend Porter. Now a two-time champion, Porter smiled and said a unification fight vs. Spence would be very easy to make. source: showtime
