KNOCKOUT OF THE YEAR CONTENDER IN JAPAN

KO1 shows why Inoue is "The Monster"

Naoya Inoue KO1 Juan Carlos Payano... Naoya Inoue knocked out Juan Carlos Payano after only one minute and ten seconds of the first round in Yokohama, Japan.  He needed only one combination to put  Payano out cold, the first stoppage loss of Payano's career.  Inoue has had only two fights at bantamweight, both first-round wins against world-class boxers who had never been stopped before.

“I am normally not a person who brags, but I said that I went for the KO to put myself under maximum pressure,” said Inoue.

The 25-year-old local hero, Inoue (17-0, 15 KOs) has won legitimate world titles at 108 and 115 pounds and currently holds a paper title at 118. With this win, he made the first defense of the paper title, the WBA regular bantamweight title he won by stopping Britain’s Jamie McDonnell in the first round of his previous fight.

The 34-year-old Payano (20-2, 9 KOs) from the Dominican Republic, a former bantamweight titlist, was stopped for the first time since making his debut eight years ago.

In the semi-final, Inoue will face the winner of the Emmanuel Rodriguez vs. Jason Moloney quarter-final that takes place on October 20th in Orlando, Florida. source: world boxing super series
