CASAMAYOR KNOCKED OUT OF RING BUT RETAINS WORLD LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Joel Casamayor TKO10 Michael Katsidis... Boxing continued its run of great fights in the lighter weights as Joel Casamayor, thought to be on the way down, retained the world lightweight championship in a wild battle against Michael Katasidis. Casamayor had Katsidis down twice in the first round, but Katsidis rallied back and knocked Casamayor out of the ring. The Cuban great, who may have punched his ticket to boxing's hall of fame with this win, landed a left hook in the tenth that decked Katsidis. Katsidis got up but Casamayor kept the pressure on, leading to a stoppage that Katsidis loyalists will claim was premature. Casamayor won the true 135-pound championship from Diego Corrales in 2006 and remains atop the division even though the WBC unjustly stripped him. Hopefully, he can fight Nate Campbell, the most deserving guy, who also happens to hold three major titles. Katsidis, a warrior who suffered his first loss, will certainly be back in major fights. We aren't even out of March, and 2008 has already given us three classic fights: Vazquez-Marquez III, Pacquaio-Marquez II and now Casamayor-Katsidis. source: yahoo! sports
