Adames to make first title defense vs. Gausha

Newly minted WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames of the Dominican Republic will defend his title against Terrell Gausha of the United States on June 15th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Adames was handed the WBC championship this week when notoriously inactive Jermall Charlo was finally stripped after an arrest for driving while intoxicated. The WBC announced that it "has decided to confirm Carlos Adames as the current WBC middleweight champion as he is being elevated from interim champion to WBC world champion... Carlos Adames has supported in an exemplary manner every action taken by the WBC in support of his colleagues throughout this time, for which we congratulate him."
 
Gausha, age 36 is 24-3 with 12 KOs but until his very last fight, he was a junior middleweight, not a middleweight. Gausha was a 2012 U.S. Olympian, and won his most recent fights against Brandyn Lynch and KeAndrae Leatherwood, after losing a twelve-round unanimous decision to Tim Tszyu in March 2022.The other two losses for Gausha, a 14-year-old professional, were against Erickson Lubin in 2020 and Erislandy Lara in 2017.
