At a press conference to promote the upcoming pay-per-view bout on Spept 30th between undisputed super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (59-2-2) and undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo, their respective trainers Eddie Reynoso and Derrick James disagreed over tactics. From the dais at the New York City press conference on Tuesday (a West Coast conference will follow tomorrow), Reynoso declared that the "fight will be an all-out war." To the contrary, James, who trains Charlo, countered that Charlo "has to be conscious of Canelo's power in daring to be great." Reynoso noted that the fight will be a difficult one: "it is definitely a challenge. Charlo has a lot of heart." James noted that Charlo needs to be the best version of himself and remain focused. Overall, both fighters were extremely cordial and respectful of one another. Alvarez stated in English that "this is the correct time to do the fight. He is a great fighter."
Charlo also noted that in order to emerge victorious, "It's about being patient and nullifying everything he does..after I beat him I'm pretty sure I will have a rematch. Charlo mentioned that Canelo has a wide variety of weapons when I asked him about his ability to neutralize Brian Castano's left hook in their rematch. Charlo went on to add that "my power is for real.".
I personally think that Charlo will have to revert back to his early style of boxing to be successful. I believe that he is multidimensional but will have his work cut out for him.
