Alvarez remains vague about plans for his next fight

The boxing world is extremely interested in what’s next for world super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez after Alvarez retained his titles by defeating Jaime Munguia on Saturday. Fans would probably select undefeated, two-time former champion David Benavidez as Alvarez's next opponent. But Benavidez is moving up to light heavyweight for his next fight. Here is all we know so far:

Alvarez intends to fight again on Mexican Independence Day weekend in September. Who will share the ring with him on that date remains to be seen.  When asked about fighting Benavidez during the post-fight interview on Saturday in Las Vegas, Alvarez replied, “I don’t know right now. I’m going to rest. I’m going to enjoy my family. But you know, if the money is right? I'll make that call. If the money is right? I can fight right now. I don’t give a sh*t. I’ve fought everyone and I can do what I want.”

The post fight press release also had Alvarez discussing his plans for what comes next. “When I retire, my numbers will say what position I'm in,” said Canelo. “I know there's a lot of great Mexican fighters in the past, but I’m the best fighting right now. I’m gonna rest and enjoy my family. If the money is right, I can fight right now. I’ve fought everyone and I can do what I want."
