The WBC reports that Top Rank leader Bob Arum is working on a three-belt light heavyweight unification fight between WBC/IBF champion Artur Beterbiev of Russia (pictured) and WBO champion Joe Smith of the United States. Jr. The target date is September 18th, probably in New York City's Madison Square Garden. In Beterbiev’s most recent fight, he knocked out Adam Deines in the tenth round last March to improve to 16-0 with 16 KOs. The 28 year-old Smith (27-3, 21 KOs) defeated Maxim Vlasov by a twelve-round majority decision last April to gain the WBO title in a very close and contested fight.
