Boots Ennis elevated to IBF welterweight champion

The IBF issued its new ratings this week, and the most significant development is that Jaron "Boots" Ennis (pictured) has been upgraded to IBF welterweight champion at the expense of Terence "Bud" Crawford, the consensus world champion. Crawford gained true world champion status when he stopped Errol Spence Jr. in a four-belt unification bout earlier this year. Ennis was previously listed as IBF interim champion beneath Crawford's world champion designation, but with Crawford apparently waiting for a Spence rematch to materialize, the IBF has decided to enforce its rules and strip Crawford for failing to make a mandatory defense against Ennis. Crawford remain the WBA, WBC and WBO champion. From Philadelphia, Ennis is 31-0 and fought twice this year, defeating Roiman Villa and Karen Chukhadzhian.
