The WBC reports that three-time champion Chartchai Chionoi passed away on Sunday in Thailand. Chionoi first reigned as the WBC flyweight champion from 1966 through 1969. He had a second reign for nine months in 1970, and in 1973, he captured the WBA flyweight title, holding it until 1974. His greatest rival was Mexico's Efren Torres, whom he fought three times, winning twice, with the world title changing hands in the last two meetings.  In all, his pro career spanned from 1959 through 1975, and he compiled a career record of 61-18-3. Born as Chartchai Laempapha, he lived to the age of seventy five and was considered one of the very best Thai fighters in history. He died  at a hospital in Bangkok due to pneumonia.
