How has everything been going in preparation for your main event on March 2nd versus James Gordon Smith? I feel good. I'm ready to fight now, I never got out of shape after my last fight. I'm ready to fight, I've watched film on him. I've been ready to go for over a month, so I can't wait to get back in there. What do you think of Smith as a fighter? He's a pretty decent fighter. He looks like he's a come forward fighter who throws some wild shots, so I think as long as I keep my defense tight, I'll see his punches coming and be able to counter.Â
GL: In his loss to Greer on Shobox he got caught in the middle of throwing some of those wild shots. Can boxing fans expect a similar outcome on March 2?
Christian Carto: "I'm not sure. I'm just going to get in there and box, but if the opportunity for a knockout comes then I'm going to take it."
GL: After starting 11-0 with all eleven by knockout, you've had back to back distance fights. Does that disappoint you?
CC: "I'm not disappointed. I got some good rounds in, but it's not like I lost a fight. I gained good experience and gone some rounds, and I plan to bring that into this fight."
GL: What do you consider your biggest advantage coming into this fight?
CC: "I'm not really sure because I think I'm an all around better fighter than him in all areas, not just one."
GL: I spoke to Smith and he's confident that he's made improvements and adjustments to his game. If he hasn't, do you think he'll be able to stand up to your power for eight rounds if you catch him with something he doesn't see because he's being wild?
CC: "I think I could knock out a lot of guys if I'm able to catch them with a punch they don't see coming, not just him, and if he made those adjustments that's cool too, because I can make adjustments as well."
GL: Do you consider him the best opponent you've fought?
CC: "I'm not sure yet, but I'll be able to tell you after the fight."
GL: What are your goals for 2018?
CC: "To keep on fighting and keep on winning."
GL: Closing thoughts?
CC: "Come out on March 2nd, it should be a good show."
