Congolese light heavies to do battle in South Africa

Two South Africa-based Congolese warriors will clash at light heavyweight on March 27th at the Turffontein Racecourse in Johannesburg. Up-and-coming Jason Medi, 6-1 with 2 KOs, takes on battle-tested Jimmy “The Beast” Mabundji, 10-7 with 8 KOs), who is by far the most accomplished opponent Medi will have faced. Medi lost his pro debut in July of 2022, a decision to undefeated Asemahle Wellem, but has looked impressive since and is now primed and ready for the most significant fight of his career so far. Like Medi, Mabundji has been based in South Africa since turning pro, and, except for one fight in Zimbabwe, all his bouts have taken place there. In June of 2017 he got a quality win at middleweight title with a first-round demolition of Dido Mukanya. Medi is arguably the fresher of the two, but the experience and toughness of Mabundji will be a tough task for him to overcome. The fight headlines Breakthrough V, a show promoted by BRD Boxing Promotions.
