Last Saturday, WBA featherweight champion Erika Cruz completed her training camp before traveling to New York City, where she will face Amanda Serrano, who holds the WBO, IBF and WBC titles.  “Dinamita”, as Cruz is known, knows that she is facing a big challenge, in which she is an underdog going against a legend. However, the Mexican Cruz she is not afraid of that: “I know I am not a favorite. They think we are going to finish the ten rounds solely to get paid... but I trained to beat Amanda Serrano.” Cruz added: “I have been preparing for a fight of this magnitude for more than ten years and I will give my best, I want to repeat [Mexican boxing legend] Salvador Sanchez’s feat”.

 

Cruz agrees that Serrano handles the psychological aspect of boxing very well. However, she believes she is just as strong mentally. In her last training session, the WBA featherweight champion was surprised when her team sent a mariachi band to the gym to wish her luck. “I know this is the result of being a good person, a good friend, a good daughter. My people are enough for me to know that I have everything to win, they know that we have the necessary weapons to beat Amanda Serrano,” Cruz said.
