WBC/WBA 115-pound champion Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada apologized for wearing the flag of Nicaragua upside down, prior to his fight last Saturday against Román “Chocolatito” González. The gesture was meant to honor Gonzalez, a Nicaraguan hero, and his countrymen. “It was a 100% involuntary mistake. I respect the Nicaraguan people and I am very grateful for the expressions of support and affection that they have given me throughout my career, and how wonderful that they treated me when I went to this country as a guest in 2019,” stated Estrada. "I in no way intended to offend the Nicaraguan people or show a lack of respect for its flag. To the contrary, it was in homage and gratitude to this nation. Unfortunately, neither my team, nor I, realized that their national flag was in a bad position, neither when taking the photograph nor when publishing it. Heartfelt apologies," he reiterated.
