Hammer talks impressive debut and mega-fight with Shields-laughs at GWOAT claims
GL: Congrats on a fantastic introduction to the American public. Can you give us some thoughts on your performance? How do you rate it? I think it was a good Fight for female boxing , good power and skills but I‘m never satisfied, I learn from every fight and I keep doing my work.
GL: What message do you feel this performance sends to the American boxing public?
Christina Hammer: That female boxing can be on the same level as mens boxing, the public was great, they supported me and that’s important .
GL: You were obviously going for it at times, but were you disappointed you didn't get the knockout?
CH: Nelson is a tough fighter she took a lot of punches. That’s boxing you can’t say I finished in this round but I think the people like my performance.
GL: What do you feel you need to improve on moving forward?
CH: Maybe I have to use more body shots because she could handle punches at her head.
GL: What did you think of the Shields-Hammer fight?
CH: I fight in the USA to show I‘m here I want to fight you .
I‘m a long time champion and against Shields will be the biggest fight ever this unification is history .
GL: How do you feel about Claressa calling herself the greatest woman of all time?
CH: She calls herself this, the public hasn't said it about her. She is a great fighter but she is beatable like in the first round against Gabriels.
GL: In your opinion were you the greatest woman in Detroit last Friday night?
CH: The greatest it’s a big name. The greatest for me is Muhammad Ali. The people have to call you the greatest, not yourself. (laughs)
GL: How will the fight with you and Claressa play out?
CH: I think it may be October or November. Hope it will be in a big arena like Madison Square Garden.
GL: What would a victory over Shields mean to you?
CH: This means everything, it's win or die, the four important belts will be on the line and to have that history I will give my all.
