Federici vs. Caparello cruiserweight fight set for Friday in NY

Italian cruiserweight Simone Federici is in New York for a bout against Australia's Blake Caparello this Friday at the Paramount Theatre in Huntington (Long Island). The 200-pound bout will feature two experienced fighters. Federici (20-2-1) hasn’t been defeated since a 2019 loss to respected Joel Tambwe Djeko. Since that setback, he has strung together six wins. Caparello (31-4-1) is 37 years old and spent most of his career as a light heavyweight. He lost a key domestic contest to Faris Chevalier in March 2021, then took some time off. He returned to the ring in June 2023 to defeat Uthit Punsen in Thailand.

On the same Star Boxing show, Haitian-born Wendy Toussaint and Egyptian-born Mponda Kalunga will wage a junior middleweight battle. Toussaint, a U.S. citizen, is coming off a unanimous decision win over Jerome Jones, whom he knocked out in the third round on October 28th. The 32 year-old Toussaint is 15-2 with 7 KOs. Kalunga now has Canadian citizenship. He is on a nine-fight winning streak since 2018, so he has great confidence despite not being the favorite in the fight. Overall, Kalunga has a record of 11 wins, 2 losses and 3 knockouts.
