Goyo Vargas contracts the coronavirus

The WBC reports that former champion Gregorio “Goyo” Vargas and his father have contracted the coronavirus. Vargas had an excellent career spanning the years 1988-2004. He worked his way onto the international scene - no easy feat for a Mexican featherweight-- and defeated Paul Hodkinson for the WBC version of the world championship. He turned the belt over to Kevin Kelley the following year but still had wins over Tracie Harris Patterson and Ben Tackie in his future, plus a 2000 loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Boxingtalk wishes Gregorio Vargas and his father a full and speedy recovery from the coronavirus.
