On October 10, 2023, the IBF ordered world junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo (pictured) to begin negotiations for an IBF mandatory defense against Bakhram Murtazaliev, a Russian who is 21-0. An agreement was not reached within the time frame allowed by the IBF, so the sanctioning body has now ordered a purse bid for Tuesday, November 21st. Charlo may not take the fight, as he also holds the WBA and WBC versions of the championship. He had all four major tites until recently, but his decision to move up two weight classes cost him the WBO title, which was awarded to Tim Tszyu of Australia on the basis that Tszyu was WBO interim champion.
