On August 2nd, the IBF ordered Cody Crowley of Canada and British champion Ekow Essuman to begin negotiations for an elimination bout to determine the IBF's #1 ranking in the weterweight division. An agreement could not be reached within the time frame allowed by the IBF, so the sanctioning body has scheduled a purse bid for Tuesday, September 12th. Crowley is 22-0, and last fought in March, a majority decision win over Abel Ramos. Essuman is 19-0 and is coming off a domestic title defense against Chris Kongo in January that he too wn by majority decision. The world wetlerweight champion, Terence Crawford holds all four major belts, but the IBF also recognizes Jaron "Boots" Ennis as the interim title holder.
