Jennifer Salinas back in action on five day notice after seven month layoff

GL: How has everything gone in training camp? What can we expect to see from you on Saturday night?  You know what? I'm a healthy person, I've always taken care of my body like a temple. I don't do drugs, I don't drink, I don't smoke so when it comes to being ready I am, because I stay in the gym. This fight happened on short notice. Not even five days to be honest, but I feel good. I train real hard to maintain and I'm going to into this fight with everything that I have a lot to bring to the fight."

GL: What do you know about your Maquita Lee?

Jennifer Salinas: "I don't know much, I've seen her fight once and I know that she stays on her toes the whole time. She doesn't like to square up and fight. She doesn't like to mix it up, she doesn't allow herself to stay on the ropes much and that's my strong point. Whenever I back somebody up to the ropes I let my hands go and shine. I probably won't be able to do that with her. I know she's also in decent shape because she lives right and takes care of her body. She maintains. A lot of fighters tend to fight and then they stay away from the gym for a while until they have another fight. Her style of fighting doesn't work to my favor because she likes to keep her distance and she likes to box more than fight and I do better with fighters. I'm still confident I'm going to win."

GL: What are you hoping a victory on June 3rd leads to?

JS: "More than anything activity because I haven't fought since November and I'm coming off a loss in Paris for the IBF world title. For me it'll be activity and another victory. Other than that loss I had in Paris I hadn't lost since 2010 so that was hard to take because I really thought I won the fight. I think being in her territory had a lot to do with it. I think it's going to help me in the long run though, but now I"m looking to get this win and stay active. The activity is very important for me. Boxrec is showing that I haven't fought since November and I don't want to lose my ranking."

GL: Why haven't you fought in seven months?

JS: "I moved from Rhode Island to Virginia, so that had something to do with it. I wasn't stable when it came to where I was living. Other than that I think they had a fight for me here and Shelly (Vincent) was fighting around the same time, and when it comes to followers and ticket sales that was going to effect my sales because we have the same fanbase. Shelly and I were dating for about two years and I was offered a fight around the same time she was fighting, so we decided to let her shine and I sacrificed my spot on the show to have her fight and that went well, the ticket sales were great. You know how boxing is, I'm starting very late this year with my first fight of 2017 happening now, but it is what it is and I'm going to make the best of it."

GL: What are your goals for this year?

JS: "It's like I said, I want to stay active so I'd like to have 3 more fights this year if I can. I'm 35 years old so being busy is very important for me at this stage of my career."

GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

JS: "I represent Bolivia when I fight but all Latinos in general, I'm a mother of four so I hope I inspire people somehow with this fight. I'm taking the fight on very short notice coming off a loss in November, but I just want everyone to find the positive in all of this and not focus on Shelly not fighting. I want this to inspire everybody who is going to be a witness that night."
