Jimenez retains interim title in Costa Rica

David Jiménez W12 Keyvin Lara... Costa Rica's David “Medallita” Jiménez was successful in his country, retaining the WBA interim super flyweight title via a unanimous decision victory over a tough opponent, Nicaragua's Keyvin Lara, at the Polideportivo de Cartago. Jiménez returned to the venue where his professional journey began in February 2019. This time, Jimenez put his best boxing on display against a seasoned veteran whom he never underestimated. Over the course of twelve hard-fought rounds, Jiménez maintained control while also navigating moments of intensity. Lara refused to go down without a fight, engaging the interim title holder in fierce exchanges without hesitation. The Nicaraguan had his moments, particularly in the middle rounds, where he absorbed Jiménez’s power shots without wavering and responded with his own clean punches. At the end, the judges delivered a unanimous decision in favor of Jiménez with the following scores: 120-108, 119-109 and 116-112.  With this victory, Jiménez improves to 17-1 with 11 KOs, while Lara falls to 32-7-1 with 12 KOs. Previously, Jimenez came up short in his attempt to dethrone then-WBA champion Artem Dalakian in a close decision in the UK. However, he rebounded by capturing the WBA interim title with a victory over John “Scrappy” Ramírez.
