Juan C. Carillo ends layoff with a KO

Juan Carlos Carrillo KO4 Marlon Delgado,... Colombian Olympian Juan Carlos Carrillo ended a year-plus layoff in strong fashion, knocking out previously unbeaten Marlon Delgado, of Ibarra, Ecuador, in the fourth round. The bout took place on the undercard of the big PBC pay-per-view show in Las Vegas. Cariilo, who is now based in Las Vegas and trained by the respected Bob Santos, stalked his prey and pelted him with short, chopping shots on the inside in addition to powerful hooks to the body. Nearing four full rounds of domination, Carrillo dropped his foe with a sneaky right hook to the midsection followed by a grazing left uppercut on the way down. Delgado stayed on the canvas for the full te-count and for about a minute after that. Referee Thomas Taylor counted the now 8-1 (6 KOs) Delgado out at 2:59 of the frame. Carrillo, who improved to 15-0 (11 KOs) as a pro, advanced to the second round at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Accumulating a record of 388-23, he is among Colombia's most decorated amateurs, winning gold at the 2012 Colombian National Games, 2012 Pacific Cup Tournament, 2011 Colombian National Championships, 2010 Colombian Youth National Championships, and silver at the 2014 Central American & Caribbean Games. He also comes from a boxing family and, at age nine, followed his father and older brother into the sport.
