Lerena vs. Gashi bridgerweight fight set for Nov. 24th

There will be a rare bridgerweight (224-pound) fight at Emperors Palace in South Africa on November 24th when Kevin Lerena fights Senad Gashi for the WBC interim title. Lennox Lewis, the last undisputed world heavyweight champion, is scheduled to be ringside. It will be Lewis' first trip to South Africa since his famous visit in 2001 when he shockingly lost his crown against Hasim Rahman. For Lerena, the champion's visit ratchets up the expectations. A former IBO 200-pound champion, Lerena (29-2) has had an eventful year campaigning at heavyweight. He had Daniel Dubois dow three times before being stopped somewhat prematurely in the third round in what seemed like a hometown call for Dubois. Lerena then bounced back with a quality win over Ryad Merhy in May. Gashi, whose residence is listed as Spain, is 27-3 including six straight wins. The three losses were to much bigger heavyweights: Derek Chisora, Carlos Takam and Tom Schwarz.
The fight action, and Lewis’ attendance, will be shown live on SuperSport in South Africa.
