The IBF has announced the death of boxing judge Eugene Grant. His last championship assignment came in January, when he was on he right side of a majority decision for Mark Magsayo over Gary Russell Jr. in an IBF featherweight title fight. He had some incredible boxing expeirences over his 37 years as a judge. In 2012, he journeyed to Argentina and judged John Riel Casimero's TKO win over Luis Lazarte, a fight that sparked a wild and dangerous riot in the venue. In 2003, he judged Cory Spinks' majoriy decision win over Ricardo mayorga for the world welterweight championship, turning in the most accurate of the three scorecards. He also officiated fights involving Mike Tyson, Meldrick Taylor, Pernell Whitaker, Evander Holyfield, Buster Douglas, Roy Jones, Orlando Canizalez and Arturo Gatti among many others.
According to the IBF, "Gene was a member of the IBF for many years and a staple in the New Jersey boxing community. He was also involved in the music industry. In fact, he brought one of his artists to entertain the group at our annual awards dinner in 2015 in Montreal. It was a great time and so generous of Gene to do that. He will be missed immensely. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time." Boxingtalk joins the IBF in sending its sympathies to the friends and family of Eugene Grant.
