Maurice Hooker out to unify division starting with Ramirez this weekend

Greg Leon: We're just days away from the biggest fight of your life, a unification bout against WBC champion Jose Ramirez. How's everything gone in camp? What can we expect to see from you on Saturday night? Maurice Hooker: "Everything is going good, we had a great camp and now we're in Dallas for fight week. I'm prepared and I'm ready to go on Saturday night." GL: Ramirez will be your sixth straight undefeated opponent, are all these unbeatens getting lined up out of coincidence or what? MH: "It just shows everybody that I've been looking to fight the best guys out there, the best guys I can fight. All of them have been undefeated and a lot of them have been in their hometowns. This fight here is in my hometown and I'm going to show out and give the fans a fight to remember on Saturday night. Jose's going to be ready to go like any guy who don't want to get rid of that zero, but I'm going to be going out there to take it."

GL: What did you think about Ramirez's last fight against Zepeda? Do you think he won that fight?

MH: "I don't think he won the fight, I think it should have been a draw, but I can't really go off of that. Any fighter can have a bad night and I think he did, but on Saturday it's not going to get any better for him."

GL: What do you consider your biggest advantage going into this fight?

MH: "I think I'm smarter than him inside the boxing ring. When I come into the ring I'm using my jab and he's just straight forward. I'm just the better boxer and it will show on fight night."

GL: What weaknesses do you see in Ramirez that you feel you're going to be able to exploit come fight night?

MH: "Just like in his last fight he's not going to be able to handle somebody that can box him, he's going to get hit a lot but it's going to be a good fight."

GL: Have we seen the best of you yet?

MH: "Nobody has seen the best of me yet, the best is yet to come. I only flashed a little of it here and there, but y'all going to start seeing it come Saturday night. Jose is a good guy and a good fighter and I hope he brings the bst out of me."

GL: You're from Texas, but he's a Mexican American. Are you confident you'll get the decision if you win the fight?

MH: "I can't worry about that, it's my job to go out there and win and that's what I'm going to do."

GL: Other than victory do you have a prediction?

MH: "I'm going to go in there and take it one round at a time, but if I see a big shot I'm going to go for it and try to get him out of there."

GL: Who do you like in the Progais-Taylor unification?

MH: "I've only seen Taylor once or twice, so I'm going to go with Prograis because he's from the USA."

GL: Is it a must happen that the winner of this fight face off with the winner of Prograis-Taylor?

MH: "Most definitely, but right now it's all about Saturday night. I think the winners need to fight each other, that's what boxing wants unified champions."

GL: Closing thoughts for the fans?

MH: "I hope everyone catches all of the action live from Dallas, Texas on Saturday night. It's going to be a good fight and you're not going to want to miss it."
