Michael Hunter wants on fast track to title

Greg Leon: Congrats on your recent victory over Sergey Kuzmin. Can you give us some thoughts on your performance? Michael Hunter: "I felt like I did well, but I could have done much better so I didn't give myself an A. I think tactically I need to fight with a little more discipline. I'm just now getting on my feet in terms of getting into the heavyweight division and finding out what weight is best for me. I'm going to be making a few litle tweaks that are going to help me in a big way."

GL: It sounds like you don't want to give away any secrets, what kind of litle tweaks?

MH: (laughs) "You're crazy, it's just tactical stuff and staying disciplined as far as keeping my hands up a little bit more. I haven't looked at the fight just yet, but I know there's a lot of little tactical stuff I could do, but as far as putting on a little more muscle or dropping some weight, I"m not sure how I'm going to work all that out just yet."

GL: Was there anything about Kuzmin that surprised you at all?

MH: "No. I knew he was going to be a tough fighter and a resilient opponent. He was everything that I thought he was going to be."

GL: What do you want this win to lead to? Who do you want next?

MH: "I'm just looking to put on a good performance so anybody will do. I just want to fight guys with better rankings than me as far as sanctioning body wise. I was looking for Povetkin, but I'm not sure if that fight is going to happen, but I want to fight whoever is reputable."

GL: How did you and Hasim Rahman link up?

MH: "I've been in Vegas for a while, I'm from Vegas and his two sons are fighters and I have a litte brother who basically grew up on the amateur boxing circuit in our state with regionals and then going to nationals, so he's been watching me grow and he's been with me for a while. It was just the perfect thing as far as the business end and boxing strategy is concerned."

GL: Is it easier for you as a fighter knowing that you have a former heavyweight champion in your corner, somebody who has been to the mountaintop you'r trying to get to, as opposed to somebody who hasn't?

MH: "That's part of Big Rock's accolades because he does know what he's talking about, he's been there and he's made mistakes, he's done great things, he's done things the right way. He's got tremendous experience and he's good with the strategy as well, as far as what's going on inside the ring."

GL: Is there any early indication when the next one is going to be?

MH: "We're hoping December, we're hoping to get some fight, any fight that's reputable. We'd love to get Povetkin, we'd love to get Dillian Whyte. I want to fight the best possible opposition and whoever is going to get me closer to that title fight."

GL: Are you disappointed you didn't get Kuzmin out of there?

MH: "A little bit, I am. It was my expectation to knock him out, but we can only build from here. I have a great foundation to learn from in this last fight, a lot of little things for me to build on that are going to make me progress for this next fight coming up."

GL: Closing thoughts.

MH: "Continue to watch my journey, follow me @michaelbountyhunter on IG."
