Idris Virgo enters the lion’s den next month when he takes on hometown favorite Aaron Chalmers as the MF & DAZN: X Series lands in Newcastle, England. Virgo and Chalmers clash in the main event at the Vertu Motors Arena on Saturday, September 23rd, live and exclusive on DAZN. Chalmers, who boxed the great Floyd Mayweather earlier this year in an exhibition, will be roared on by some of the noisiest fans in the world but unbeaten pro boxer Virgo heads to the North East intent on silencing the Geordie Army. Virgo is 12-0-1 but has not fought in a true pro fight since 2021.
Misfits Boxing descends on the sports-mad city of Newcastle for the first time and its fans are in for a massive treat with a whole host of crossover boxing stars in action next month.
Ashley Rak-Su battles Halal Ham in the co-feature while FaZe Temper and Ginty lock horns in a cruiserweight contest.
Gabe Silva – the son of UFC legend Anderson Silva – fights Ben "The Bane" Davis, while S1mba and Master Oogway go at it in a heavyweight showdown.
TV personality TashWeekender is in action against Carla Jade and the Misfits female super bantamweight title will be on the line when AJ Bunker and Little Bellsy collide.
Reality TV star Callum Izzard faces US opposition in OJ Rosé while the night opens with Pully Arif vs Small Spartan Jay.
Idris Virgo said: “I will be entering a hostile environment on September 23rd but I'm there to take care of business. The Newcastle fans, however much they try and intimidate me, it's not going to work and very quickly I will stun them into silence, when I issue a beatdown on Chalmers. "They call me the Bodybreaker, but I'll also be breaking Chalmers' heart and after this Misfits will have no choice but to put me on their pound for pound list after this victory."
Former MMA star Aaron Chalmers said: “Idris is a bum, the last guy I fought just signed for UFC, the last guy he fought just cleaned my bins. He has never sold a ticket in his life, I’ve sold out the Newcastle arena twice, and sold more tickets in his hometown for my debut fight than he’s sold in all his fights combined. Idris is 13 fight unbeaten pro but is more famous for being terrorized by Tommy Fury in the crowd at the last Misfits event. We are going to go to war, every round I will be standing in the middle of the ring going blow for blow, hook for hook and jab for jab, whoever wins this fight is the swing bout for nearly every fight on the Prime Card and I’m there for it. I've had one pro boxing fight and one exhibition, which I took on one week's notice but for this fight I’ve had a proper camp no excuses and we are going to leave it all in the ring.”
Mams Taylor, co-president of Misfits Boxing said: "This is a seriously tasty headline fight for a seriously exciting card. The Misfits Boxing world is buzzing with excitement for the Prime Card on October 14, but before we get to Manchester, we're heading to Newcastle for X Series 009 for a brilliant show that is going to deliver big time. The atmosphere is going to be electric."
Kalle Sauerland, co-president of Misfits Boxing said: "Newcastle is one of the biggest and best sporting cities in the country, so we're thrilled to be finally bringing a major Misfits Boxing show there. And with X Series 009 we are delivering a card that we know the North East fans will love, with hometown favourite Aaron Chalmers taking on Idris Virgo in a main event that could be one of the very best headlining fights we've ever had. Add to that US stars, heavyweights, a female title fight and much more, and you've got one hell of a show on September 23."
Joe Markowski, DAZN North America CEO said: “We are looking forward to adding another fight to the X Series schedule ahead of our mega show on Oct 14th. This will be another night of top tier entertainment to add to the excitement building up to KSI vs. Tommy Fury in October.”
